Who are we?

Word games are alive in Ottawa! We are officially sanctioned by the North American Scrabble® Players Association (NASPA) as Club #495. Our club consists of several experts, many aficionados, and a great group of recreational players. All players of any skill level are welcome and will easily find a place to fit in. Who knows? You may become the next expert.

Where do we play?

We meet every Wednesday at the Gloucester Public Library, 2036 Ogilvie Rd., from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. We welcome all comers.

For the players who wish to show off their new words to the rest of the world, there are several Scrabble® tournaments that many of the club players attend. They are great fun and you will soon be making friends from across Canada and the United States.

What do I need to bring?

Many of our players have their own Scrabble® boards, tiles, racks and timers. There are always enough to go around. All we ask is that you have a basic knowledge of the rules.

At our "social" club sessions, we don't use timers, but please bring whatever equipment you have, no matter how old it is. If you bring friends, even better, but bear in mind that all of our games are two-player and the director may set pairings to match players of similar ability.

How much does it cost?

Each session costs $2.00 for 3 games. Not bad for 3 hours worth of great clean fun. This fee is to help offset the room rental and cover supplies. Whatever we don't spend on rent and registration fees, we give back to our membership or spend on our annual spring tournament.

Our "social" club sessions are free.

The club plays a lot of weird words that don't seem to make sense. Is that normal?

Our club uses the Official Scrabble® Word List sanctioned by NASPA. You will find many strange words ranging from "aa" to "zzz". This word list is painstakingly prepared by consolidating the most well known dictionaries. While this may be daunting at first, you will find yourself quickly wondering why everyone else doesn't know what "aa" means. We will provide you with a list of all the 2 and 3 letter words when you first come so that you can learn them as you play. All our players are eager to share their word knowledge and strategy!

Will my friends and family think I am geeky?

Absolutely... but they will be envious, too.

I have more questions!!
